I chose to research German foods and
cuisines. There are many different foods and cuisines that the Germans have
compared to fellow U.S. citizens. I researched the top ten foods in Germany,
the list goes like this;
Foods:
(1) Apfelstrudel
(2)Eintopf
(3) Kasespatzle
(4)Rote
Grutze
(5)
Sauerbraten
(6) Brezel
(7)Schwarzwalder
Kirschtorte
(8)
Schnitzel
(9) Wurst
Many of these dishes include meat as a main staple, and there
are also a lot of sweet dishes as well. Some other important things to know
include etiquette that is very important in Germany.
Etiquette:
Some of the etiquette includes kind
of just brownie points… A few of these are kind of cool.
(1) Bring a Gift
(2) Shake hands, firmly
(3) Table Manners:
(4) Hold the fork in your left hand, the knife in
your right hand.
(5) Keep both in your hands while eating. Don’t
put the knife or fork down except to drink or pick up bread. The knife (in your
right hand) is also used to help discreetly guide food onto your fork (in your
left hand).
(6) Do not cut up an entire piece of meat at once.
Cut off a bite-size piece and eat it before you cut off another piece.
(7) If there are more utensils than just a knife
and fork (salad fork, dessert spoon, etc.), the rule is simple: Move inward
from the outside for each course. Sometimes spoons are placed above the plate
rather than on the side.
(8) When finished, lay your knife and fork side by
side on your plate pointing to the center, with the handles on the lower right
rim (five o’clock position).
(9) Do not eat with your hands.
(10)
Get
sparkling mineral water
(11)
Put
your napkin in your lap while dining
(12)
Wait
until everyone is seated to begin eating or drinking
(13)
Have
the waiter or waitress make the toast
(14)
Try
new foods
(15)
Eat
all of your food, whether you like it or not
